TikTok is one of today’s most popular video-sharing apps, with more than 1 billion active users around the world. Whether you’re a business owner, influencer or content creator, there are endless opportunities to grow your audience and expand your reach. Here are five tips for how you can maximise your engagement on the platform.
Know your audience
Who’s watching your content? What do they like? The app’s Creator tools have the answer (available on the top right of your profile tab). Select Analytics to see a data-backed snapshot of your audience and content performance, as well as a “For your inspiration” section with clips that TikTok thinks your audience will love.
Once you know what works (and what doesn’t), visit the Creator Portal to learn about content strategy and ways to level up your creations.
Use the right hashtags
TikTok doubles as a search engine of sorts, pointing users to the trendiest cafes or their next beach read. Using the right hashtags in your post will help you stand out to your target audience, and you can check out trending hashtags in your region on the TikTok Creative Center website.
Another way to identify relevant hashtags is to scroll through posts on the For You section of the Home tab. Adding text to your post will also help the platform categorise it and surface it to those who’ll find it interesting.
Find collaborations
Working with another creator is one of the best ways to broaden your reach, learn new skills, gain fresh perspectives and generate content that you wouldn’t be able to create on your own.
There are many ways you can join forces with another creator: film a video together, connect through in-app features such as Duet or use their original sound to come up with an eye-catching clip.
Experiment often
TikTok trends move fast. Most successful TikTokers incorporate popular sounds, dances and formats into their content, or better yet, create their own that others can follow.
Experiment with TikTok’s latest features and updates, from kooky AI filters to longer videos that last up to three minutes. That way, you’ll be well-prepared when particular effects or features go viral.
Find your formula
Being ahead of the curve with trends is what will get you noticed, but finding your niche will help you build a strong presence on TikTok.
Once you’ve identified where you shine, be consistent: post content at a regular cadence and stick to a particular theme or style. With your own formula, you’ll be able to build a loyal following and keep your audience engaged.
